How do I use Routes in the Buoyweather app? (iOS only)

Important Notes

  • The Routes feature is only available in the Buoyweather iOS app (version 5.4.0 or later)
  • Routes is available for Premium subscribers only

What is the Routes feature?

Routes allows Premium users to view forecast conditions along a saved passage and compare multiple routes side by side.

Instead of checking forecast points individually, you can set your departure time and cruising speed to see how conditions are expected to change throughout your trip.

How do I access Routes?

  1. Open the Buoyweather app.
  2. Go to Favorites.
  3. Select the Routes tab.
  4. Add a new route by tapping the + Add button or select one of your saved routes.
  5. Tap 2 or more points to set your route, and then tap Save route
  6. Set your departure date/time and cruising speed.
  7. Review the forecast for your route or compare it with other saved routes.

The Routes view displays hourly wind information and forecast flags so you can compare conditions across different passages.

What forecast information can I see along a route?

Tap into a saved route to view the full passage forecast.

You can move through waypoints along the route to check expected:

  • Wind speed and direction
  • Waves (Average height, Peak height, and Period)
  • Tides
  • Weather
  • Estimated time and distance

The forecast is matched to when you’re expected to reach each point based on your selected departure time and cruising speed.

Can I compare multiple routes?

Yes. The Routes tab lets you compare saved routes side by side, including hourly wind and forecast flags. This can help you compare different departure times or crossings before leaving.

Can I edit the name or waypoint on a route?

Yes. To edit the Waypoints on a route:

  1. Click into the route you'd like to edit
  2. Tap the pencil icon at the top right of the route
  3. Tap a point to delete it, or press and hold to move it, then tap Save Route at the bottom of your screen
  4. Name your Route and tap + Save route to save the changes
